From reading his final letter to his family I dont think he was very close to them. He obliveousily comes from a good family but I don't think they gave him as much love as they should have. Most people would tell their family that they loved them if they knew they were never going to have contact with them and he didn't. I also think that chris was happy to be away from his family because in his letter he was very short. From telling his family what he was going to disappear for a while I think that he wanted some closure. He Knew he was never going to go back to his old life but he didn't want to tell his family that so instead he was a little vague about it so they at least knew that he wasn't going to be back for a while.

I think a circumstance that would cause Chris to create a whole new person and life for himself might have to do with his family. He obliviously isn't very close with them so something with his family may have triggered something that made him want to leave his whole life behind. Another possibility could be that it was an ongoing battle with his family that he just it sick an tired of. There are endless possibilities that may have contributed to his decision to abandon his life but I believe the main cause was something to do with his family.

  1. I agree he doesn't seem to care about his family. There is no way they were close

  2. I also think he is intelligent, wealthy, and very adventurous for going out to Alaska. I agree that he wasn't close to his family and they were deffinitely a reason he left home.

  3. I agree with you about his family. He was short about his letter. I also agree with you on the possiblities that would make him leave. I feel the same way.

  4. I agree that with you that he and his family don't really have a great relationship and he didn't give them enough of a goodbye with his letter.

  6. I agree with you and Leslie. I also don't think he has care toward his parents either, he seems to be very distant but want them to know about him along the way
