Into the Wild blog #4

I was very shocked Chris's decision to get a job at McDonalds. Chris doesn't seem like the type of person who would get a job much less a job at one of the biggest companys in the world. I think the thing that triggered his attempt at a conventional existance is he wasn't sure of himself. Even though he had already left his previous life behind he may not have been sure if he should go off into the wilderness by himself so he decided to just get a job to support himself for a little while. Chris' colleagues described him as odd and someone who wouldn't comprimise even though he was reliable I feel that Chris saw himself as better than his coworkers. He knew that he was able to do better than a job at McDonalds but he also knew that most of the people working with him couldn't get a better job.
Chris' has a very close relationship with Jan and Bob Burres. He actually trusts him unlike his own parents. I feel like their relationship is this way because the Burres lost their own son and treat Chris like their own. While Jan and Bob treat him like a son they don't push him to do the things they want like Chris' parents may have.
I believe that Franz was so affected by Chris because Chris showed him affection. While he may not have said it I feel as though Chris saw Franz as a grandfather. Franz seems like an old and lonely man and Chris actually has interest in his life. It doesn't seem that Franz has any children or grandchildren so Chris is actually someone who keeps Franz company in his lonely life.
