Into the Wild blog #1


   From what I have read about McCandless I have mixed feelings about him. On one hand I admire him for his courage but on the other I see him as a man who finally snapped. I'm not sure if I see him as "crazy" yet or not. I see where he could have gotten angry with something that happened in his life, snapped,  and just went away into the wilderness to maybe find himself or get away from society but it seems a little extreme. Leaving everything that he has behind and just wondering off into the wilderness with very little supplies leads me to think he is a little crazy.

 I believe that McCandless was looking for something very special in the wild. Not something you can hold or even see. I feel as though he was searching for himself. McCandless was leaving his life behind and looking for who he truly was without people to influence him. Another thing he could have been searching for could have been to see if he had a connection with nature. There are many factors that may have contriuted to his decision to go off into the wilderness. One being that he may have been trying to find meaning in his life. It's not unusual for young adults to leave all they know behind and move away to find themselves and start a new life but McCandless just took it to an extreme. Another thing that may have pushed him to the edge could have been his frustration with soceity. He may have just gotten tired of all the ignorance in soceity and just decided to get away from it all.

    I agree with the not right in the head. There was definatly something wrong with this guy, but idk if he was mad. it doesn't have any indecation in the story of that, but it is anyones guess what was up with him.

    I also think he was right in his mind. There is something that he is looking for; however, no one really knows exactly what that coukld be.

    Well Mazie, I also think that Alex is crazy. Or at least close to it. I do agree with you about his searching for something, probably something very special to him.

    I agree with your entire blog Mazie. I feel the same way about him. He does seem a little crazy, but I get what your saying about everything.

    I believe he wasn't crazy for what he did, and he deserves credit for the things he done. He was very brave, even if it want what the 'average person would have done.
